The community came together when Dearne Valley Bulldogs held a charity fundraising day.

The kindhearted rugby league club from Bolton-upon-Dearne raised more than £1,000 for the Bluebell Wood children’s hospice and Doncaster St John’s Hospice.

Organiser and club member and spokesman, Duncan Henderson, said the day went “fantastically well” and everyone enjoyed themselves.

He added: “What a great day. Ronnie The Rhino from Leeds Rugby League team also joined us on the day and entertained all those who came along to support us.”

He added: “We even had a charity match against a visiting XIII, which the Bulldogs won by 24 to 16. But the real winner on the day was charity.”

The day included various craft stalls, bric-a-brac, a raffle, tombola and face painting.

Duncan further added: “This was such a success we are thinking of doing something similar again on a date to be confirmed.”
