Award-winning family restaurant firm takes over in Doncaster: Jumaira offers
Yorkshire and curries go together like cricket and sunshine … and one of the region’s most famous restaurants is being given a new lease of life, thanks to one of the oldest restauranteurs in the county.
For the past 27 years Mr Ali has run the Aagrah restaurant. Sadly having to retire due to ill-health, extended family members are taking over the venue and have relaunched it.
With a new look and a new name – Jumaira – the restaurant is featuring some of the finest Indian and Pakistani cuisine Yorkshire has ever seen. That claim doesn’t come lightly, as the new owners, the Bashir family, have run the International in Bradford for more than 50 years. But the newly re-opened eaterie is as popular as ever and earning more plaudits every day.
As new owner Zameer Khan said: “Everyone knows that Bradford is the curry capital. To have been in business there for 50 years, and elsewhere in Sheffield and Manchester, and to have won awards, we must be doing something right.”
While the restaurant and menu are new, there are plenty of old favourites, with many of the staff staying on post relaunch, and the phone number – 01302 728888 – staying the same.
Zameer added: “Mr Ali ran a very popular restaurant here for many years, and we are delighted he let us keep the phone number and those links with the community.
“We are very excited by what we are bringing for both dine in customers and those who want take out to eat at home. We hope customers old and new will bear with us during the transition and give us a try, we are sure they will like what they see.”
Jumaira has opened in Great N Road, Woodlands, Doncaster DN6 7RA. Follow them on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok or the website at jumairarestaurant.co.uk for the latest news and offers.
