Taxi drivers show they've got The Knowledge
THE first set of taxi drivers to complete Doncaster's answer to The Knowledge received their certificates at a ceremony in March.
Doncaster College is running what is believed to be one of the country's first NVQs in Road Passenger Transport.
The course offers taxi drivers across the borough the opportunity to access a range of skills development including customer care, disability awareness, equal opportunities and local knowledge relating to attractions, events and places to go within Doncaster.
So far, more than 30 hackney and private hire vehicle drivers have taken part in the project, which gives them a nationally recognised qualification.
More than 80 drivers are currently enrolled.
The scheme was rolled out across Doncaster late last year and a ceremony celebrating the success of drivers took place at The Stables, High Melton.
College principal Rowland Foote handed out certificates to 15 drivers who had taken the course.
Mr Foote said: "The job of a taxi driver is an extremely important one.
"They are the first point of contact for anyone coming into a town. They do a fantastic job here in Doncaster.
"I have been amazed by the friendliness of everyone in South Yorkshire. The people here are a credit to the area."
