Eastern European festival in Newark

NEWARK Showground is set to be transformed from Friday 21st August until Sunday 23rd August for a three-day festival that will showcase the customs and cultures of 13 Eastern European countries, all of which have large communities living and working in Britain.

The festival will enable visitors to savour delicious, local cuisine, national costumes, traditional music and much, much more.

As well as a dedicated Kids Zone for children, there will be lots to keep the adults entertained, including sporting events - such as an Eastern European football tournament, complete with Eastern European Cup for the winners; a strong man event; national dress competitions and fashion shows; as well as market stalls selling foods and crafts from throughout Eastern Europe.

Visitors will literally cross the borders from one country to the next, and be greeted by something new at every turn.

One of the festival organisers, Mr Gary Black, explained: "The Eastern European Festival will enable people from the participating countries to bring the customs and culture of their homelands to a part of middle England for one weekend. There is no other festival like this taking place in the UK.

"Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, tastes and experiences of Eastern European countries without the need for expensive holidays. We will be paying special attention to children, sports and tradition, in order to make the festival a family event in the truest sense.

"There will be parties in the evenings, and music will play a big part in the weekend's calendar so the atmosphere is bound to be fantastic."

Any team that wants to enter the many sports competitions that will take place over the weekend, including junior football and tag rugby, plus adult tag rugby, tug of war and strongest man competiitons, should ring the hotline now on 01159 373820.
