People from the Dearne are being invited to take part in a free five-week course for people interested in working in a nursery or school.
Those interested will be given the opportunity by Barnsley Council to find out more with a view to training for employment.
Run by Barnsley’s Adult and Family Learning service, Introduction to Working with Children will be held weekly at Wellington House, Wellington Street, Barnsley, beginning on Monday, September 22 from 6pm, or Wednesday September 24, (9.30am and 1.30pm). Each session lasts just over two hours.
Through this new course students will learn about children’s foundation stage, the curriculum, the nursery and school day, and about the role they can play in supporting young children. It is an ideal introduction for people who want to help their own children, or those considering a qualification to work in nursery or school.
Students will gain a certificate for an award in personal and social development. There will be an opportunity to progress onto a longer course to gain a recognised qualification. The entry requirement is English at level E3.
