And organisers are celebrating after describing this year’s gathering as ‘the biggest and best yet’.

Nigel Thorley, event spokesman, said: “We had a wonderful day, it went fantastically well and we were incredibly happy with the turn-out.

“This is the ninth year we have hosted the show and the response was the best we have ever had.”

The six-and-a-half hour spectacular featured hundreds of vehicles, the oldest dating from 1916 and right up to date with a Lamborghini which drew gasps from younger visitors.

There were hundreds of classic and modern cars, commercial vehicles and bikes on show as well as scores of other entertainments and attractions.

A Star Wars costume group was present, while the Memphis Cruisers rockabilly band and an Abba tribute provided musical entertainment in the summer sunshine.

However, a planned RAF memorial flypast had to be cancelled due to technical problems – but it could not dampen spirits.

Mr Thorley said: “We are already planning for next year and are hoping to make the event even bigger than this year.
