The council has joined forces with British Cycling again this year to offer cycling opportunities across North Lincolnshire and is on the lookout for women to be Breeze champions to lead bike rides.

Do you love cycling for fun and meeting new people? Are you passionate about getting your local community on a bike? Then you are an ideal Breeze champion.

The Breeze network is British Cycling’s exciting programme to get more women riding bikes for fun. Led by women, for women, Breeze relies on a hugely important group of volunteer champions to make the programme happen.

British Cycling is currently looking to recruit new champions. There’s no need to be a cycling expert, just be confident on a bike and keen to help others. They are looking for enthusiastic people to get involved in the Breeze network and inspire women to get more out of their bike, have fun with friends and get a recognised qualification at the same time.

To become a Breeze champion:

You’ll take part in a fun one-day ride leadership course where you will have a chance to meet like-minded women.

The certificate qualifies you to independently plan, deliver and promote rides to groups of women.

In addition to free training they will provide you with a Breeze kit, British Cycling ride membership and plenty of support along the way.

To ensure you are able to deliver safe bike rides British Cycling will support you to gain a first aid qualification.

In return, British Cycling asks the champions to deliver on average 12 rides over the year to local women in North Lincolnshire.

If you are interested in becoming a Breeze Ride Leader please complete the expression of interest form on the Sky Ride website.

The Breeze champion course is running in Scunthorpe on 25 April.

Lindsay Heathfield, Sport, Play and Community Development Officer at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “More and more people are taking up cycling in North Lincolnshire so it is great that British Cycling is bringing further cycling opportunities to our area. We are encouraging women to come forward to become Breeze Bike Leaders to help deliver rides across North Lincolnshire. If you have a passion or interest for cycling and want to influence others to get out their bikes then why not become a Breeze Bike Leader?

“British Cycling offers a range of cycling opportunities, not just for women, so keep an eye out for a range of bike rides across North Lincolnshire that everyone can get involved in.”
