REGARDING the eco housing development at Rossington. I recently stayed with a friend in West Sussex and the old airfield in Ford is one of the other proposed areas for 15,000 eco houses.
Their problem is similar - this development will encroach on agricultural land and the resultant 15,00 - 30,000 extra vehicles on the road will clog up the already over-stretched road system.

Everywhere we went there were large posters and placar
ds saying "NO to eco houses at Ford", etc. There was a lot of local anger and resentment at the proposal.

By placing 'eco' in front of a housing project we are led to believe it is good for the environment - who are they fooling? Even a project of 5,000 houses (and who's to say it will stay at this?) will result in 5,000-10,000 more cars on the road guzzling petrol/diesel, the houses will still need gas, electricity and water, not to mention less drainage land being available.

Why doesn't the government listen to the people? We don't want casinos (super or otherwise), 24-hour drinking, hospitals closing or criminals being let off with a slap on the wrist. What we do want is a country to be proud of where Britain's green and pleasant land remains just that, with open countryside and not huge swathes of building development.

Caroline Flint seems very dismissive of local concern and anger. As Housing Minister, doesn't she care how much of the countryside she condemns to a concrete jungle? I thought MP's were supposed to listen to their constituents and take on board public opinion.
