LIVING on the main Doncaster to Rotherham road it is as easy to shop in Rotherham or Worksop as Doncaster and for the last four years I have done this in preference to battling into Doncaster and paying the parking fees.
Today I had to drop a document off at my solicitors on Hallgate and as this only took a minute I decided to have a walk down Scot Lane and look round the top of the market.

The Waterdale car park that I used was only a third full, many of the shops were empty, and most of the market stalls were unused. I did notice a sign saying that parking charges were going up next week.

On returning to my car I had a £25 fine, an eagle eyed warden had spotted that I wasn't at my car between 2.54pm and 2.57pm when my tickets expired at 2.48pm.

I rang the council who stated that if I wished I could write in and explain where I had been, what I was doing, and why I was late back; and then it may be considered whether or not to waive the fine.

I shall not bother to appeal, the council can have their £25, but it will be a long time before they get the opportunity to get another one.
