I WAS absolutely horrified to read in the Free Press, that the police let the person who viciously attacked the landlord of the Ridgewood public house, Edenthorpe escape prosecution with caution.
Jim Emmerson was punched and kicked while on the floor in front of his wife, the decision not to prosecute is a sad one for all law abiding citizens, the police spokesmen stating that a caution was normal for this offence was totally outrageous and really those send out the wrong message to all the thugs out there.

Surely The Crown Prosecution service and the police have a duty to us all as public servants, and should be seen to be upholding the law, which means sending out the message that it is totally unacceptable behaviour for someone to viciously attack another person.

I believe that the majority of people have very little faith in our criminal justices system and this may be the real reason that the crime figures are down by 10 per cent may be people just can't be bothered to reporting a crime unless they need the all important crime number for insurance claims.
