Immigration debate

It was interesting to note that immigration was mentioned in your letters page last week.
Much has been written about why Labour lost so many seats in the recent local elections, yet not one person or political party mentioned the fact that mass immigration was the main concern amongst British residents.

This is NOT being racist - no country can allow open borders on a continuous basis.

Britain is a very small island and it is only common sense to restrict the influx of migrants. I have worked abroad and my job applications were carefully vetted and restricted to the vacancies on offer.

Why do we have such a furious debate when Britain tries to do the same? Our country is already in chaos as the Government have no idea who is in the country. Plus we have an over-generous benefit system which has resulted in third generation families never having worked and which has gone a long way to breed the yob culture we see on our streets. Until we sort out our own problems we do need to severely restrict numbers of immigrants, both from inside and outside the EU.
