ACCORDING to Blur circa 1994, bank holidays are 'days of enjoyment to which everyone cheers'. Personally I can't agree more with the frenetic and youthful edict of Damon Albarn: ideally Doncaster will enjoy a weekend of carefree abandon in salute to that joyous bonus day-off that is Mayday.
If you're too old for Maypole dancing (in that it'd look tragic and a bit seedy rather than cute) Doncaster has plenty of alternative opportunities for just such spritely merriment in store.

On Friday Walkabout presents Superfreak – a band who've
played to thousands at Party in the Park and so they might just be prepared for the stuffy crowds of Doncaster's busiest venue.

If you fancy something new and improved, check out the transformed Silks of old – Detox. Following its recent opening, cheap drinks are on offer as well as a DJ set from local House DJ Andy M.

If you don't mind saying goodbye to your Sunday and House music is your sonic vice, Boiler Rooms is hosting their House All-nighter until 6am.

If you're like me and actually value a bit of Sunday sunshine you might prefer to spend Saturday evening at the Priory: their B'LO club night presents MOBO award winner Shortee Blitz. If his Kiss FM shows are anything to go by his set will be strictly Hiphop and definitely worth a watch.

And on a bank holiday it's Sunday night when then town comes alive with the devil-may-care/no-work-til-Tuesday nonchalance. Again, the Priory is embracing this with Cream Classics and guest DJs K-Klass. K-Klass are a product of the Hacienda generation – a much venerated but slowly dying out breed of British musicians.

After releasing successful house mixes throughout the 90s they are now winning acclaim and matching accolades for their producing and remixing of mainstream pop. Expect Sunday night to be grass-roots House – there's always Monday for that lie-in!
