A warehouse worker who had chosen to stay on beyond retirement age, was crushed when pallets fell on him, a Doncaster inquest heard.
Frederick Roberts, 66, of Bond Street, Rossington died in the early hours of Wednesday following an incident at the DHL Exel warehouse on High Common Lane in Tickhill.

Mr Roberts, who had wanted to continue in his job for another year and was work
ing on the night-shift, died of crush injuries to the chest and broken ribs, deputy coroner Fred Curtis told his widow Hazel.

Mrs Roberts, aged 65, said she was told her husband had been involved in an accident at work just before 6am.

She and her daughter were taken by police to Doncaster Royal Infirmary but her husband was pronounced dead before they arrived.

Pc Michael Miles said he attended the warehouse at 5am and found a group of people and a paramedic giving first aid to Mr Roberts. He assisted by giving chest compressions all the way to hospital before
handing over to medical staff.

Mr Curtis adjourned the inquest to call a jury to hear evidence of how pallets came to fall on to Mr Roberts.

The Health and Safety Executive is also carrying out an investigation.

A spokesman for DHL said: "We would like to express our deepest
sympathies to the family and friends of the employee involved in the incident.

"As we are working closely with the relevant authorities to complete a thorough investigation of this incident, we regret that we cannot comment further at this stage."
