Thousands of free travel passes sent out

HUNDREDS of thousands of pensioners should now have their new national free travel passes.
The final batch of English National Concession passes are being delivered in South Yokrhsire within the next fews days.

Transport chiefs say there are a number of applications with data errors that are currently being dealt with.

ire Passenger Transport Executive wrote to 225,000 people over the age of 60 or mobility impaired inviting them to apply for the new pass which will give them free off-peak bus travel throughout England and received nearly 200,000 replies.

SYPTE director general David Brown said: "This has been a major task for us, but I am pleased to say that virtually all the passes applied for before 1 April have now been dealt with. This means that thousands of people across

South Yorkshire will now be able to benefit from the new scheme."

Holders of the new pass can travel free on bus services anywhere in England from 0930 Monday to Friday; and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. In addition, residents of South Yorkshire are entitled to free travel from 9am on buses, trams and trains. Mobility impaired people are entitled to free travel all day.
