A THIEF posing as a door to door salesman stole cash from the purse of a 92-year-old woman after walking into her home.

The man entered the pensioner's home in Ridgill Avenue, Skellow, through an unlocked door and told the victim he had items for sale.

The woman agreed to pay £5 for some air freshners, dish clothes, dusters and tissues.

When she opened her purse the thief grabbed a £20 note and ran off.

Police are warning residents to ensure their properties are locked and to be cautious when handling cash near strangers.

The thief was white, slim, 5ft 2ins tall and aged between 25 and 27.

He had a small face with a pointy nose and was wearing a white baseball cap, a white hooded tracksuit top with thick blue stripes on the sleeves as well as blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the incident which happened at 1.30pm on Saturday, April 26, should contact police on (01302) 385135 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
