Memorial concert to death crash teen
STUDENTS at Doncaster College have staged a memorial to a teenager who was killed in a car crash.
Art students from the college organised a concert in honour of Robert Mackey at High Melton's Harvey Theatre.
Robert and his friend Mark Besford, both, 19, died when the Citroen Saxo they were travelling in collided with another car on the B1396 Bank End Road near Westwoodside on April 15.
Last night students put on a three hour performance in memory of Robert, of St Wilfrid's Road, Bessacarr, who was studying a National Diploma in music technology at Doncaster College.
The event was split into two parts - the first for reflection and the second for commemoration - and was attended by Robert's family.
The evening saw performances from solo singers, bands, other musicians and dancers with messages of remembrance played on a big screen.
A college spokesman said: "The event was planned by the students as a memorial for Rob. He was such a well-liked student and got on well with everyone.
"Rob himself was a talented musician and we hope he would have enjoyed the performances put on by his fellow students."
Discussions are now being held about creating a permanent memorial of Robert.
An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death or Robert and Mark, of Akferry Road, Westwoodside.
