Members' fears for cash after gym shuts its doors

A TOWN centre gym has shut suddenly - prompting fears that members could lose hundreds of pounds.
Motorcise, in Wood Street, closed its doors without any notice after the company went into administration.
Members claimed the business was accepting new memberships and offering discounted deals to existing customers just days before it closed.
Judy Wright, from Cantley, had used the gym for four years. She said her £300 annual membership was due to expire in July.
The 64-year-old retired dinner lady added that members had got together to discuss what could be done to try to recover any cash lost.
"The day before it closed they accepted money for new membership," she said. "They put on this offer the week before for people to pay £100 to get money off next year.
"It is about £300 a year and some people will have lost quite a lot of money.
"I am one of the more fortunate ones as I will not lose as much money as some."
Muriel Bryan, 68, from Tickhill, renewed her £270 annual membership in February.
She explained: "I have rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis and using the machine is good for my mobility.
"There are a lot of widows who go there and to a lot of people it is their social life.
"A lot of people are really depressed. It is absolutely disgusting."
Motorcise gyms are aimed at the over 40s and are used by many elderly people who suffer arthritis or want gentle exercise.
The firm, which went into administration earlier this month, had 44 branches nationwide some of which were franchises.
Energie Fitness for Women, based in Milton Keynes, has bought 24 of the Motorcise gyms.
The remaining sites, including Doncaster, will remain closed unless administrators can negotiate deals for them with another company.
A spokesman for Energie Fitness for Women said: "Energie Fitness for Women did not acquire the companies previously trading but was able to purchase some of the other Motorcise Healthy Living Centres.
"The centres purchased by Energie Fitness for Women are open and trading normally.
"Energie does not and never has had any connection with these closed Motorcise Healthy Living Centres and cannot accept any liability for membership monies paid."
Interested parties regarding the Motorcise closures should contact administrators Begbies Traynor on 0161 837 1700.
Motorcise was unavailable for comment.
