Lottery grant for local cheerleaders

A group of Doncaster cheerleaders really do have something to celebrate after winning a lottery grant of over £8,000 for new pom-poms.
Woodlands Rockettes cheerleading squad have been awarded £8,734 from the Awards for All scheme and already have plans to splash the cash on costumes, shoes and batons.

Rockettes helper Sandra Gardner said the group were delighted to learn they ha
d been awarded the money.

"We were chuffed to bits when we got the news." she said.

Other groups in Doncaster also benefited from the latest round of grants.

Doncaster Athletic Club were awarded £8,806, Adwick St Lawrence Bowling Club were given £5,000 and community group Friends of Hexthorpe Flatts were handed £10,000.

Awards for All is the small grants scheme administered by the Big Lottery Fund on behalf of Lottery good cause funders, Arts Council England, Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England.

The scheme makes awards of between £300 and £10,000 to grass-roots community groups and voluntary organisations.

Vanessa White, Big Lottery Fund Head of Yorkshire and Humberside, said: "It's wonderful to see so many projects in the region,77 in all, benefit from close to £600,000 of funds this month.

"These unique and innovative projects will help, entertain and educate people in every corner of Yorkshire and Humberside."
