PAUL Coddington is the new Civic Mayor and chair of Doncaster Council.
The Bessacarr and Cantley ward member, who was first elected in 1999, replaces Tony Sockett after being voted in and inaugurated at Friday's full council meeting

As a Liberal Democrat, he joins a very select band of non Labour Party members to ever take up the prestigious role.

Shortly after being sworn in at Mansion House he told fellow councillors of his desire to "play his part in bringing people together and working for the common good".

He also announced that his two nominated charities for the forthcoming year would be Doncaster Hospice and the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline project.

Labour's Tony Sockett, meanwhile, said he felt "humbled" by the praise of his colleagues as he stepped down from the position.
"It's been a year with many highlights," he said.
