ONE of Doncaster's oldest flagship manufacturers is to close, it has been announced.
Glass giant Pilkington's, an employer in the borough for decades, is to cease trading at its Kirk Sandall site.

The company said 37 jobs will be lost when the factory closes in November.

Bosses have blamed a decline in business for wire glass products manufactured at the plant for the closure,
It said attempts to find new markets for the goods had failed.

Staff and unions were told about the closure today.

The firm said it would help affected workers find new jobs.

Pilkington's Doncaster plate works was first opened in 1922 to supplement production at the firm's original factory at St Helens, and has been a major employer in the borough ever since.
