Adult inpatient mental health services in Doncaster are among the best in the country, according to an in-depth assessment by the nation's health watchdog.

An 'Excellent' rating was awarded to Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust in the largest ever review of acute adult inpatient mental health services, conducted by The Healthcare Commission.

The trust's services
in Doncaster and Rotherham emerged top of the table with a rating of 15 – the highest awarded - out of a possible 16.

It shares the top spot with Dudley Primary Care ahead of 67 other acute mental health providers.

Similar services in North Lincolnshire, which were transferred to RDaSH at the beginning of June, also earned an 'excellent' rating with 13 points, a position shared with four other trusts.

RDaSH, was one of only eight out of England's 69 mental health trusts to achieve the 'Excellent' rating.

The trust's operations director, Helen Dabbs, commented: "This is tremendous news and is a great incentive for staff to continue with our programme of improvements. They have every reason to be proud of this latest achievement."

The watchdog used performance data and patient and staff surveys to judge trusts on four key criteria – safety, the standard of care, the involvement of patients and carers and the patient journey, which looks at how well patients are moved through the system.
