TWO sisters who ran a sponsored marathon 3,500 miles away in Dubai have raised more than £6,000 for the Doncaster hospice where their uncle receives care one day a week.
Claire, 22, and Fiona Walker, 26, completed the race to boost the coffers of Balby's St John's Hospice, where Joe Langrell, from Hatchellwood View, Bessacarr, is a day patient.

Mr Langrell, 51, held a top post with one of the country's leading insurance companies before being diagnosed with a brain tumour three years ago. He enjoys spending every Friday at the centre and has learned to paint in water colours and develop his independence.

He said: "My nieces both live in Dubai and I'm so grateful that they wanted to do this for me. I've been coming to St John's for the past two years and wanted to give something back for the help and support I've received from everyone here. I felt so proud handing over the cheque."

Val Derks, from Doncaster Primary Care Trust (PCT) who is palliative care lead at the hospice, commented: "We can't thank Joe and his family enough for this kind gesture. The money will pay for patient comforts at St John's, so many local people will benefit from their generosity."
