More than 650 jobs could be created in Askern if plans to re-develop the saw mill site get the go ahead.
Housing and industry plans for the site, near the former spa town lake, have been unveiled by developers, who claim the proposals will make a
positive and lasting impact on the character and economic sustainability of the village.

Askern Propert
y Trading Partnership has submitted the plans to Doncaster Council for the redevelopment of the saw mill site on Doncaster Road.

The organisation says it estimates the site will bring 16 jobs from retail uses, 66 jobs from restaurant and drinking establishments, and 605 jobs from employment uses, including 56 staff currently working for Askern Saw Mills whose work will be relocated on the site.

The figure does not include construction jobs which would also be involved in the scheme.

A spokesman for the organisation said: "It is proposed to redevelop the Saw Mill site for a mix of high quality uses including up to 220 dwellings, over 21,000 square meters of employment space, shops and food and drink uses, as well as significant areas of public open space and pedestrian and cycle links to Askern Lake.

"An employment zone is proposed to the south of the site which will have the potential to create over 600 new jobs and which will contain
the existing Saw Mill business, relocated from its current location."

A public exhibition was held on Tuesday where a member of the development team answered questions about the current proposals.
