Car plunges into canal

POLICE and fire crews - including the police helicopter - were called out last night after people reported seeing a car plunge into the canal at Clay Lane West.
Fire crews were called out around 8pm after being alerted by witnesses.

Police divers recovered the Vauxhall Corsa from Long Sandall Lock at around 10.30pm but there was no sign of the driver.

A search of the nearby area found no sign of anyone.
