A BUS company is to close its Doncaster depot after the building was badly damaged in last summer's floods.
Stagecoach has confirmed in intends to shut its depot in Milethorne Lane, Wheatley, with the loss of 12 maintenance and management jobs.

Drivers at the site will be transferred to Stagecoach depots in Rawmarsh and Barnsley.

The firm said its se
rvices in Doncaster - which serve areas including Mexborough, Conisbrough, Sprotbrough, Bentley, Arksey and Robin Hood Airport - would not be affected.

However, some drivers are annoyed the move will leave them out of pocket by having to spend more on travelling to and from work.

One driver, who did not want to be named said: "I will have to use my car for work because of the early mornings and late finishes at night.

There is no other way of getting to Rawmarsh or Barnsley depots. At Doncaster depot they had a staff bus for you because drivers live near the depot.

"We will have to pay fuel expenses and we can't car share because shifts never start at the same time."

A consultation period with unions has started and the depot is expected to close in mid July.

Paul Lynch, managing director for Stagecoach Yorkshire said the firm would discuss the issue of drivers having to travel further to work with the unions.
