SOCCER star Scott Bibby is living his dream Stateside - and shooting for the stars.
The 19-year-old striker, from Tickhill, has earned his stripes by netting 23 goals in his first season with the University of Rio Grande RedStorm.

Bibby, a former Doncaster Rovers youth player, crossed the Atlantic this year to start a four-year soccer scholarship and business degree at the Ohio campus.

And the teenager has certainly been doing the business on the field - after being named Mid-South Conference Player of the Year.

The ex-Edlington School pupil has also been selected as the MSC Men's Soccer Freshman of the Year.

Scott's mum Beverley said her son was realising his dream.

She said: "Since he was four he's been saying he wants to play football in America - and now it's all come together.

"It's a place we've never been to as a family but he always wanted to go there.

"Low and behold he got his wish - and he's doing very well.

"Scott was absolutely gutted when he was released by Rovers because that's what he wanted to do," she added.

"But he's ended up at a really good team - it's quite a good standard - and he's really enjoying it.

"Once he finishes his scholarship he'd love to get a professional contract to play out there full time."

Bibby was released by Rovers in February after three years as a YTS at the club.

He was scouted by Rio Grande playing for Northern Counties East League side Brodsworth MW as his goals helped fire Welfare into the final of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup at Hillsborough in April.

The former Sheffield United Academy player shot to prominence in the Doncaster Junior Sunday Football League with Tickhill Juniors and Edlington White Stars.

Rio Grande RedStorm finished runners up in this year's MSC and have progressed through to the national play-offs.

Jordan Shepherd, another former Rovers youth players, is also part of the RedStorm squad.
