BALBY's Jason Rushton faces one of the toughest fights of his career when he takes on top ten ranked British light middleweight Thomas McDonagh in Leigh this Sunday.
The former Central Area champion is bidding to claw his way back up the ratings after losing his belt in a stoppage setback against unbeaten Danny Reynolds last March.

Rushton won his comeback fight against another tough opponent in fine style but McDonagh - beaten only once in 35 fights - represents a big step up in class.

His father and manager John Rushton said: "McDonagh's looking for a British title fight eventually and can't get anyone in this country to fight him.

"They were going to go for an overseas opponent but Jason's not scared of anybody and put himself forward."

Rushton is keen for a tough workout before stepping down in weight to fight unbeaten Merseysider Brett Flournoy for the vacant Central Area welterweight title in Nottingham on November 22.

  • Conisbrough's Stefy Bull will be back in action after losing in a bid for the British Masters light welterweight title at the Dome recently when he fights at a dinner boxing show at the Hellaby Hall Hotel, Maltby on November 7.
