JOHN Oster's stoppage time winner sent Rovers up to eighth in the Championship.
The midfielder latched onto Billy Sharp's centre to tap home as Doncaster came from behind to win for the first time this season.
Charlie Lee gave the home side a deserved lead on 55 minutes when his header from a Tommy Rowe corner was adjudged to have crossed the line.
Neil Sullivan had spectacularly denied Lee's downward header just moments before the opening goal.
And Rovers' 40-year-old stopper was kept busy by the Posh as he clutched Craig Mackail-Smith's volley on the hour mark but could only watch as Rowe planted a header inches past the post.
Gareth Roberts levelled after 66 minutes when he lashed home a superb first time volley from just inside the area after United thought they had cleared the danger.
And there was a final twist in the tail as a quick Rovers counter attack saw Oster stroke home at the death to keep the club's play-off hopes alive.
