THE Dons' promotion hopes suffered a blow at Boundary Park where they were well beaten by a strong Oldham side.
Ellery Hanley's men battled bravely against their neat and efficient opposition to go in at the break only two points adrift.
But four quickfire second half tries by the Roughyeds inflicted Doncaster's fourth league defeat of the season and saw them slip to sixth in the standings.
Scores from Craig Littler, who took advantage of a fortunate ricochet off the bar, and Daryl Cardiss handed Oldham the initiative in the televised clash before a converted Peter Green try on the half hour mark, and a Luke Gale penalty, got the visitors back in the game.
Danny Halliwell then made the most of another fortunate bounce to extend the home side's lead 12 minutes into the second half before the floodgates opened.
Tries from Tommy Goulden (2) and Luke Sutton quickly took the game away from the Dons, although scores from the impressive Wayne Reittie and Corey Lawrie reduced the deficit.
Doncaster are back in action at the Keepmoat Stadium on Friday (8pm) at home to a Blackpool side who defeated league leaders Barrow at the weekend.
