SEAN O'Driscoll welcomed the breather of a weekend away from league action because of the international break and said it was time to take stock after ten games in the Championship.
Rovers picked up seven points from their first four games but have since lost six in a row and slipped into the bottom three.
The Doncaster boss said: "Silly errors and a failure to score goals have let us down.
"I don't think it's a lack of ab
ility and, judged on performances alone, we should have a dozen more points which would put us fourth in the table.
"But we are judged by results and, on that criteria, we have not done well enough and we need to improve.
"It doesn't matter how much possession we have had in games, or how many shots and crosses and corners we have produced - the simple fact is we haven't got enough points."
O'Driscoll said he and the rest of the staff and players had been "embarrassed" by Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Barnsley.
He added: "Sometimes you have a bad day at the office and you put your hand up and admit it.
"But this was something more than that and we let ourselves down.
"It's how we react now that's important and the fortnight's break is a good time to reflect."
O'Driscoll was due to meet chairman John Ryan today to discuss Rovers' start to the campaign and said he would not rule out bringing a player or players in on loan if he felt they would improve the squad.
He added: "We have to be careful how we react and do things for the right reasons."
Brian Stock, Richie Wellens and Gareth Taylor will all miss Sunday's fund raising match against the stars of the past but are hoping to be fit for the next match at home to Blackpool on October 18.
