LYNN Howells expects Doncaster Knights to kick on when they make the long journey to face Cornish Pirates on Sunday.
But the director of rugby says there will no repeat of the kicking tactics used in last weekend's narrow defeat to Championship leaders Exeter Chiefs.

Howells is targeting six or seven wins from the club's final ten league games in order to secure a top eight spot and a place in the promotion play-offs.

An ever-improving Knights side were just minutes away from ruining Exeter's 100 per cent record at Castle Park on Saturday when a late Chiefs try gave the visitors a hard earned 14-9 win.

The game made for a poor spectacle - but Howells was pleased with the performance.

And he is expecting a very different type of match in Cornwall this weekend.

He said: "If you'd have said before the Exeter game that we'd have so many chances I would've been quite pleased.

"In the end we did enough to win it and we were disappointed not to beat them.

"From a rugby point of view it wasn't exciting at all.

"Exeter don't play much rugby and we tried to counteract their kicking game by kicking it back to them and saying 'what can you do with it?'

"It made for a pretty boring game. But I don't expect that to be the case on Sunday.

"The Pirates like to play rugby and it should be a lot more open.

"I think we've had more success when that has been the case this season.
