OPERA star Lesley Garrett hopes that she can walz her way to dancing success - with the backing of her home town.

The Thorne-born opera star has made it to the last three, with her partner Anton Du Beke, in the hit BBC celebrity contest Strictly Come Dancing
On Saturday rugby star Martin Offiah had to leave the show after the public telephone vote.

"I'm just so excited," said Lesley. "I can't believe we made it to the semi-finals, I didn't even think in my wildest dreams that I would make it. Its amazing."

Now she and Anton are in training to learn two new dances for this weekend's semi-final against newsreader Natasha Kaplinksy and EastEnders' actor Christopher Parker.

Lesley said: "I've never been fitter but I'm absolutely terrified. Its so hard to learn two dances in a week, but Anton is such a superb dancer that I still have hope.

"I just hope all the people at home in Doncaster will get behind me to help me to the top. It's such a dream for me to be part of this."

To vote for Lesley call 09011 211 112. Calls cost 25p, with 12p going to charity Sport Relief.
