UNRULY street gangs hold no fear for PCSO Richard Kearney of Rawmarsh, but meeting the Queen gave him a sleepless night!

Last week the Wentworth South Police and Community Support Officer Supervisor made the journey south to Buckingham Palace, to receive his MBE. The Honour recognised his many community projects, and his achievements in helping to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

Mr Kearney, 48, said: “I’m a bit uncomfortable when the focus is on me, but I took my wife Anne-Marie, my son Joshua and daughter Natasha, and had three days in London as it was also my birthday.

“It all went incredibly smoothly. When I came out of the palace about 1,000 Japanese tourists, or so it seemed, thought I was someone famous and insisted on taking my photograph. But it was all a fantastic experience.”
