Doncaster Council is vandalising our lovely town

HAVING returned from a memorable trip to the Canadian Rockies, I could not believe the next step of Doncaster Council`s efforts to vandalise what was once a lovely town.

As I approached the new phase of the Bawtry Road bus corridor I could not believe the destruction of the avenue of trees between the Dome traffic lights and the race course traffic island.

First of all I am not a tree hugging naturalist, but I could not feel anything but sadness to see such a loss to an attractive entrance to Doncaster.

Why such an act, when in this day and age we are trying to conserve any form of natural defences in environmental issues.

Trees benefit the world in carbon defences ,assistance in torrential rain absorbing and the solving of many more environmental problems.

So why does the DMBC contradict themselves in creating lanes for diesel fume pumping buses and then destroy natural defences in such ignorant ways?

Doncaster is fast becoming an undesirable place to live.

Most UK residents who travel from the UK to foreign climes dread the return home as they near their date of return to work. Being retired this does not affect me personally, however the depression sets in as I get near to Doncaster, fearing what `improvements` have been made.

Whilst in Alberta and British Columbia , not once did I see intrusive cameras speed traps or traffic wardens impersonating fascism.

Instead everyone obeyed the rules of the road and life.

Cyclists and pedestrians had priority and cars gave way all the time

The fines for littering involved fees of between 1,000 and 2,000 Canadian $ and not once did I see a piece of litter anywhere.

The air was pure in the cities due to FREE fare passenger trams and the majority of major produce going by train.

Since returning all I smell is diesel fumes from the local public transport.

As a side issue , why a bus lane I do not know. Why not , as in many towns , have green /red priority flow at peak times?.For example Bawtry Road, two lanes on green entering Doncaster in a morning and two lanes on green exiting at night? Simple!

I have lived in Doncaster all my life and have seen dramatic transformations, mainly adverse. I am now becoming quickly disillusioned with the way Doncaster, specifically, is heading.

I do hope the DMBC is planning a replanting of tree scheme?
