PEOPLE struggling to afford food are being given a helping hand by a supermarket.
Staff at Sainsbury’s in King Street were joined by Don Valley MP Caroline Flint to launch a campaign collecting food for the Million Meal Appeal.
The event will be the county’s biggest ever food collection, encouraging the supermarket’s customers to donate food items whilst doing their weekly shop to “help feed those in need”.
Ms Flint said: “The Million Meal Appeal comes at a vital time to help local families struggling with rising living costs and cuts to tax credits.
“I am supporting the Million Meal Appeal at one of the 900 Sainsburys stores supporting this food drive and I urge others to visit www.fareshare.org.uk to see how they can help.”
