MORE than 150 jobs have been created at a business park in Doncaster.
And the borough is set for a further jobs boost as the developers behind the Wheatley Trade and Business Park announced it has sold almost half the space in its next development.

Ground Group, based on Wheatley Trade and Business Park, built 12 un
its on land off Clay Lane West aimed at companies needing storage, sales manufacturing and showroom facilities.

National companies that have signed up to the units include building trade and hardware supplier Screwfix, vehicle glass repair firm Autoglass, protective clothing company Arco and garage door showroom Henderson.

Ground Group bosses said more than 150 jobs had been created by the development which only had one empty unit left.

The firm is currently building another business park in Sandall Stones Road, Kirk Sandall, which is expected to create about 175 jobs.

Nigel Griffiths, director of Ground Group said he was pleased national retailers had signed up to the Wheatley development.

He said: "We built speculatively with local and starter businesses in mind so we have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the tenants.

"There is now a very good mix of businesses which complement each other nicely and we've really ended up with a one-stop shop for the building trade and associated professions."

Ground Group was formed in 1987 by Michael Griffiths and his sons Nigel and Darren Griffiths, who now run the company.

Originally the firm bought and modernised terrace houses, before it gradually expanded its residential schemes.

About six years ago it branched into commercial development with the opening of Bawtry business park.

Building work has started on the 65,000 sq ft Kirk Sandall development which should be completed later this year.

It is not known exactly how many units will be built as they are being custom built to the specific needs of customers.

About 50 per cent of the space has been pre-sold but Ground Group will not disclose who has signed up to the scheme because of customer confidentiality.
