AS AUTUMN draws in, it will soon be time for Halloween and Bonfire Night.
The Halloween children's party is being organised for October 31 at the community centre; the kids will love it as always.

Then, on November 4, the annual fireworks display will take place, with the promise of another great show.

The end of A
ugust saw the public meeting called to discuss the proposed development extension to West Moor Park.

The meeting was relatively well attended, with members of the community given the opportunity to ask questions and make comments to representatives of the developers and Doncaster Council's planning department.

Shortly afterwards came the September parish council meeting, during which the parish councillors finally had a chance to discuss the outline planning application.

After much discussion, and after listening to the concerns of the community, the parish council agreed to make a number of objections to Doncaster Council.

These included ecological concerns, traffic congestion issues and that the proposed units were of an excessive size.

It was also noted that the proposed development does not comply with the provisions of the development plan, as the site is designated as a countryside policy area. The parish council meeting was also the first opportunity I had to voice my opinions.

I understand that while ever our population grows, whether by immigration, longer life expectancy, or through an ever-changing birth rate, we will need increased housing and industrial development. The question was, to my mind, whether this was the time and the place.

After much thought and discussions with others, I too concluded that this type of development was not right for this place, and most certainly not at a time of such economic uncertainty.

I believe that more and better use should be made of our existing brownfield sites, and such huge developments should at all times be kept away from residential areas.

I am sure there are several other motorway junctions in Yorkshire, next to which these units could be set, that do not impose on a large residential area.

Perhaps it is just that these areas have not been offered for sale at the right price.

All I can say to you now is this – if you object to this development, write a letter or two.

Write to Doncaster Council, write to your MP, and if necessary write to the Secretary of State.

As a community, we cannot afford to moan and complain, and then sit back and do nothing; inaction is tantamount to agreement!
