MARATHON man Tommy Joyce ran 26 miles on a treadmill to raise more than £500 for a Rotherham dog charity as they enter their busiest period of the year.
Tommy spent hours on the treadmill at the Wath branch of Tesco and collected the fund for the Rotherham Dog Rescue who help to rehome stray and abandoned dogs.
December is known as 'death month' for dogs as pounds and rescues are full of unwanted puppies bought as Christmas presents.
Charity representative Moya Stinson said: "The volunteers try to be prepared for the horror stories that they are faced with at Christmas. Why are so many elderly dogs abandoned, why do people keep on buying puppies as Christmas presents and why just after Christmas are the pounds full once again?
"Rotherham Dog Rescue try so hard to help the dogs finding themselves left along during the Christmas period. It is never ending and we wonder will it ever end?"
