A DEARNE beauty spot which is popular with walkers has been given a facelift in the hope of attracting more visitors.
The clean up of Knoll Beck stream, which runs between Brampton and the Old Moor area of Manvers, involved removing litter and cutting back overgrowth.
It was carried out on Tuesday by volunteers who mucked in alongside staff from the Environment A
gency, Rotherham Council's Streetpride team and members of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds
The stream lies adjacent to a section of the Trans-Pennine Trail, which has recently been closed for resurfacing, and it is hoped that the combined resurface and clean-up will make the area more attractive for visitors.
Stuart Jenkinson, Project Manager with the Environment Agency, said: "Caring for the rivers of South Yorkshire is an important part of our job.
"So, it is great to be working outdoors to create a better place for local people and local wildlife. Partnerships are the best way to tackle environmental problems and it is brilliant that we can get together with Rotherham Council's Streetpride Team and the RSPB on this project."
Pete Wall, Site Manager at the RSPB Old Moor reserve, added: "The Trans-Pennine Trail runs next to our site and it has been closed for a while. It is great that it is about to re-open, once again allowing people who use the trail to visit us and the birds at Old Moor."
