FORMER Commonwealth Games bronze medalist boxer Tommy Joyce will run a treadmill marathon later this month to raise money towards the Mexborough Market stallholders bid to buy a defibrillator.
The 'Marathon Man' stepped in to offer his support for effort to raise £800 to purchase the equipment that will give heart attack victims in the town centre a much greater chance of survival.

The portable machines, which provide a controlled electric shock to stabilise the heart rate, cost £1,600 each but South Yorkshire Ambulance Service has pledged to match half of the total cost price.

Tommy will run 26 miles on a treadmill outside the Tesco store on Mexborough High Street on Saturday October 25, beginning at 10am. If anyone wishes to sponsor Tommy they can contact him on (01709) 584339 while collections for the fund are currently being held at all participating stalls in the market.
