A KIND hearted Adwick-on-Dearne woman who is battling cancer has raised more than £10,000 for charity over the last five years.
Brave Margaret Wright, 61, suffers from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma but she has still managed to raise a total of £10,670 for good causes.

She started her fundraising campaign five years ago for the Royal Marsden Hospital Myeloma Fund - a specialist cancer hospital based in London. And in the first two years she raised more than £2,000 by selling home made Belgian chocolates.

Then three and a half years ago Mrs Wright, a former purchasing manager for British Coal, was diagnosed with cancer herself and decided to start fundraising for a cause a little closer to home - Sheffield's Weston Park Hospital.

In that time she has continued to sell her popular hand made chocolates and has also held three strawberry tea afternoons at her and husband Ian's home on Manor Lane.

The latest Strawberry Tea, on June 28, attracted more than 100 visitors and in addition to the chocolate sales raised £3,500. This brings the total over five years to £10,670.

Margaret said: "I want to say a big thankyou to everyone who has contributed to our latest fundraiser and to all the events over the years.

"I am going to start chemotherapy at Weston Park Hospital within the next few weeks so I will be taking it a bit easier while I have my treatment.

"But we are definitely planning on having another strawberry tea next year."

Mrs Wright also thanked local businesses including Blitz Hair Design, Dearne Valley Garden Centre, the Monti Deli and Hydra Tools International for their support.
